Angie McMahon - Knowing Me, Knowing You

my mum was very fond of ABBA, but admittedly i've struggled to get into some of their music (unless i'm screaming GIMME GIMME GIMME A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT at the gay bar, then i'm ABBA's number one fan).

having said that, perhaps i never really gave them a fair chance. i'm still unlearning the deep-seated internalised misogyny i held towards women pop singers but i'm slowly undoing all that by almost exclusively listening to women pop singers now lol. wow so this recommendation has become a journal entry....

i really like this cover though. it reminds me that despite so many of ABBA's songs having an uplifting, sometimes even euphoric vibe, their lyrics are often really heartbreaking. angie's vocals have such a melancholy quality to them, pairing naturally with ABBA's lyrics.

perhaps my affection for this cover can be a little homage to my mum's musical loves :)
